Anton-WinklerAnton J. "Tony" Winkler, 94, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 19, 1917, in Uniontown, Mo., son of Hugo and Anna M. Meyer Winkler. He and Kathryn Koehler were married Jan. 10, 1942. She passed away Oct. 26, 1980. He and Margaret Kave George were married Jan. 12, 1990.

Tony was inducted into the Army Air Corps during World War II and honorably served from Dec. 23, 1942, until Oct. 19, 1945.

Richard "Dick" Dirnberger

Claude Richard "Dick" Dirnberger, 77, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011.

He was born Jan. 25, 1934, in New Hamburg, Mo., to Claude William and Rebecca Brock Dirnberger. He and Mary Jo Ferrell were married Aug. 7, 1954, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg. She preceded him in death Sept. 23, 2007.

Dick graduated from Benton High School and received a bachelor of science in business administration from Southeast Missouri State University.

He worked for Drury Inns Inc. 31 years, retiring as a vice president. He was a member of St. Mary Cathedral and was very involved in his Catholic faith community. He co-chaired St. Mary's Building Drive for the new school, was a radio Mass commentator and served on the parish council. At Notre Dame Regional High School he filled the roles of school board president and Booster Club president.

Dick was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1111, Thomas A. Langen Assembly, Fourth Degree member of Knights of Columbus and Elks Lodge 639. He was Saint Francis Auxiliary treasurer and his duties included installing Lifelines for the auxiliary.

Survivors include four sons, Paul, Steve (Charlotte) and Mark Dirnberger of Cape Girardeau, and John (Cathy) Dirnberger of St. Charles, Mo.; three brothers, David Dirnberger of New Hamburg, Andrew Dirnberger of Benton, Mo., and Glen Dirnberger of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Lois Spalding and Vera Ann Henneman of Benton, and Janet Vetter of Commerce, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, Destiny, Brock, Mariah, Rita Jo, Abraham, Audrey, Samuel, Mary, Christopher, Amanda, Tyler, Nicholas, and Adam Dirnberger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude William and Rebecca Dirnberger; and wife, Mary Jo Dirnberger.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m., with Knights of Columbus rosary immediately following.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Cathedral, with the Rev. Tom Kiefer officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Mary's Building Fund or Notre Dame Education Fund Foundation.

Barry Polston, 63, of Cape Girardeau, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born April 19, 1947 in Cairo, Ill., to Frank and Eva Morrison Polston.

He served in the U.S. Army in Korea and worked as a corrections officer at the Potosi, Mo., Correctional Center.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church VFW Post 2649 of Cairo and Knights of Columbus Council No. 1111.

Survivors include a daughter, Krista Stevens of Cape Girardeau; his former wife, Myra Griffith of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren, Abigal Stevens and Myley Stevens, both of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Parish Prayers will begin at 7 p.m., with Knights of Columbus rosary to follow.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel with the Rev. David Hulshof officiating.

Burial will follow at Mound City National Cemetery in Mound City, Ill., with full military honors.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society for the research of liver cancer.

He was born Nov. 14, 1939, in Old Appleton, to William B. and Anna Katherine Lauck Schott. He and Helen Claire Boone were married April 18, 1964, at New Madrid, Mo.

Leonard Beussink

beussinkLeonard G. "Slim" Beussink, 76, of Gordonville passed away Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 24, 1933, in Leopold, Mo., son of Herman and Mary Holzum Beussink Sr. He and Carolann Clippard were married Oct. 26, 1957.

Leonard served in the U.S. Navy Seabees from 1955 to 1957.

He founded Leonard Beussink Woodworks in 1977. He co-founded B&B Door Co. with his son Mike in 1988. Leonard was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson, a 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 6405 and member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson.

He was also an avid crappie fisherman and rabbit hunter.

Loving survivors include his wife, Carolann Beussink; three sons, Tim and Debbie Ziegler Beussink of Gordonville, Tom and Michele Leimer Beussink of Jackson, Mike and Amy Falcetti Beussink of Jackson; a daughter, Carla and Alan Morrill of Scott City; two brothers, Albert and Herman Beussink Jr. of Gordonville; three sisters, Annie Spooler, Betty Arnzen, Berniece Ziegler, all of Jackson; eight grandchildren, Joshua and Nathan Beussink, Hadleigh and Landon Beussink, Lexi, Addie and Colby Beussink, and Jane Morrill.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Gilbert and Bernard Beussink.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Immaculate Conception Church. Parish prayers will begin at 7, followed by Knights of Columbus rosary.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. John Harth officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery with graveside military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Immaculate Conception Building Fund or Immaculate Conception Social Ministries.
