Barry Polston, 63, of Cape Girardeau, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born April 19, 1947 in Cairo, Ill., to Frank and Eva Morrison Polston. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea and worked as a corrections officer at the Potosi, Mo., Correctional Center. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church VFW Post 2649 of Cairo and Knights of Columbus Council No. 1111. Survivors include a daughter, Krista Stevens of Cape Girardeau; his former wife, Myra Griffith of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren, Abigal Stevens and Myley Stevens, both of Cape Girardeau. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish Prayers will begin at 7 p.m., with Knights of Columbus rosary to follow. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel with the Rev. David Hulshof officiating. Burial will follow at Mound City National Cemetery in Mound City, Ill., with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society for the research of liver cancer.
